The ex-Corporators of the Addagutta and Boudha Nagar divisions in Secunderabad Constituency of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reveal that lack of financial support from the Corporation has caused hindrances for several projects in the areas.

In particular, the projects of primary educational institutions and primary healthcare centre have been left unattended by the Corporation. The ex-Corporator of Addagutta, Ratna Kumari said they had tried to provide proper medical and education facility in their division but, due to lack of financial support from the GHMC the projects never progressed.

However, the Corporators of Mettuguda and Tarnaka, MR Srinivas Rao and Banda Karthika Reddy respectively, refused to comment on it saying they are retired from the work. The petitions on the two matters were found common in three divisions from the last three years filed by the residents of Addagutta, Mettuguda and Tarnaka during 2012 and 2013.

Manjula Devi, a civic worker from Ashvini Nagar of Mahendra Hills said, “The poor residents of our division have to go neighbouring health centre to get medical aid.” Further, the situation of young students in the division is similar.

“People are forced to send their child to the nearby private schools due to absence of government school in the division,” she informed. Nearly, six major proposals in the Addaguta division were halted due to “reasons unknown”.

Currently, the residents in the division are trying for a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tukaram gate. According to the residents, the completion of the project would save a lot of time at the Tukaram gate to cross railway line during peak hours.

Water grievances
Several other grievances on water shortage, sewage overflowing, requirement and malfunctioning of streetlights, bad roads, ill-maintained footpaths and dangling of electricity wires were registered in huge numbers to the Corporators in all the divisions.

A resident of Keshavnagar colony in Mettuguda, retired government employee, Pashupati said that there is a huge water shortage in their locality. “People use motors to draw water during water supply timings. Such things are prohibited but, residents here have no other option,” he informed.

When contacted ex-Corporator, Adam Umadevi of Boudha Nagar, clarified that the drainage lines all over the constituency were laid nearly 20-30 years ago. She said that many proposals were submitted to the GHMC for replacing of the old pipelines but, were halted due to availability of funds.

Despite several petitions filed by the residents of the four wards viz. Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Boudha Nagar and Addagutta the Constituency all these grievances are still unattended by the Corporation.
