“I’m so proud to be Hyderabad’s Bahu. I can connect with people easily by talking to them in Hindi or English,” said MP Poonam Mahajan.

“I’m so proud to be Hyderabad’s Bahu. I can connect with people easily by talking to them in Hindi or English,” said MP Poonam Mahajan. She was addressing the interactive session ‘Multifaceted Women of Today’, which was organised by FICCI at Hotel Park Hyatt. Also present at the panel was Maya Sharma, senior Broadcast Journalist from NDTV and Padma Rajgopal (Chairperson of FICCI FLO).

“When the topic comes about women in working areas, all of us are multifaceted. If you want something to be told, go for a man. And if you want something to be done, tell a woman,” she said a the session, which was themed ‘Aspire to Inspire’. “That is how women are,” she added. “Women are very dedicated. None can beat them in multitasking.”

Poonam said that she was new to politics. “I didn’t know anything when I entered politics by accident, soon after my father died,” she informed to the packed audience, who heard her with rapt attention. When asked to describe herself in three words she said, “Passionate and mad.”

“It is a mad person who will achieve their goals,” she insisted and added a saying in Marathi, which is translated to as “if you don’t become mad, you can’t get into history.” “I’m proud to be a woman. I believe in feminism. Are you not proud of being women?,” She asked her audience. She told them to celebrate motherhood and womanhood.

“You should be proud of yourself. It’s all about how we present yourself. A woman doesn’t need any kind of empowerment. She should look inside and say I can do it. I have been brought up that way,” said Poonam Mahajan who is presently National Secretary of BJP.
