The Deccan Manava Seva Samithi, situated beside Ujjaini Mahankali temple in Secunderabad has been providing goodwill services towards the temple development activities for over 90 years now.

In a joint statement released to the media, President IS Prakasha Rao, working President Silam Prabhaker and Treasurer CK Narasinga Rao recounted the formation of the NGO and said, “In the olden days, this place was a thick forest with wild animals surrounded by wells and lakes. The custom was to sacrifice animals to please the Goddess Mahakali to seek her blessings for fulfillment of their wishes.

Due to this mass sacrifice of animals, the entire area was turned into a stream of blood, which clots and falls into the nearby wells and ponds. The people who used to drink the water of wells and ponds were polluted and contacted diseases leading to cholera, typhoid and others.”

“The organisation took up prohibition of animal slaughter at temples and educated people to break pumpkins instead. Upto 400 people and volunteers work the cause and maintain hygiene in the Temple premises. They also take up social responsibility activities such as free distribution text, notesbooks and school uniforms to the poor and weaker sections of the society,” said the statement.
