The Indian obsession with fair skin dates back to several centuries. People believe that fair skin is more beautiful than dark skin and try various products to change their skin colour. People with not so fair skin suffer negative self image and the entire fairness product industry has exploited this sentiment.

Taking a stance against the perception ‘fair skin is only beautiful’, Banjara’s; a natural cosmetic brand conceptualiseda social movement #Proud of My Color. The campaign aims to change the perception that fair skin does not mean beauty and people should overcome their colour bias.

Taking forward the stance, Banjara’s today just few days before Independence Day organised a silent flash mob at the RTC X Road, one the most prominent traffic junction at Hyderabad. The activity conveyed the message that, “People need to be fair only to each other and not their skin”. They should not be colour biased towards their family members or judge people based on their skin colour.

Young girls should have a positive self image about their natural skin colour and not have negative/inferiority complex based on their colour. Hence they should get freedom from their obsession towards fair skin. This activity will continue in other prominent localities also and will be followed by activities in colleges in Hyderabad.
