The Necklace Road Railway Station was jam packed with participants who came out in support of the ‘Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat Run’ on Sunday. Led by General Manager of South Central Railway (SCR), Ravindra Gupta, the ‘Run’ included railway officers and staff, their family members, sportspersons from Railways and a sizeable number of rail users and others who joined for the cause.

Organised in commemoration of the golden jubilee of SCR, the ‘Run’ marked the commencement of the third year of the ‘Swachh Rail – Swachh Bharat Mission’. Participants took a ‘ Swachhta Shapath’, which was administered by the GM. Tri-colour balloons with “Swachh Rail-Swachh Bharat” messages tagged, were released by Gupta; AK Gupta, Addl. GM/SCR and Shikha Gupta, President, SCR Women’s Welfare Organisation. Later, the ‘Run’ was formally flagged off by Shikha.

Addressing the gathering after the completion of the ‘Run’, Gupta called upon rail users to join hands with the Railways in making the mission a success. Explaining the significance of the day, the GM made a point that the golden jubilee of SCR is an occasion to pursue the objective of a clean railway with more vigour. “The Zone is fortunate to share its birthday with that of the Father of the Nation and is focused to fulfill the mission towards cleanliness,” he said.
Ashesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division, Principal Heads of Departments of SCR were amongst those who took part in the programme.

Later, the GM launched the cleanliness campaign at Kacheguda Railway Station, amidst a sizeable crowd of rail users including MMTS commuters’. He took to the wheels to undertake mechanised cleaning on the platform and in the circulating area. The programme was marked by cultural events including songs stressing on cleanliness, skits to educate rail users on cleanliness and dances by youth groups to drive home the message of cleanliness. Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, SCR, other officers from Head Quarters and the Division were present.
