Guru SangeetanandaSri NetiSriramaSarma memorial Award was presented to renowned Carnatic vocalist and former top-grade AIR artiste,Bhalamudi Indira Kameswara Rao at a function held in the city recently.

The award was presented by Durgabai Deshmukh College of Fine Arts and Media Educationat a programme ‘Guru Smarana’that was organised to pay tributes to the great legends and ‘gurusin the world of Carnatic music from the two Telugu States.

Dr Rama Prabha, Principal of the college recounted her learning experience under her guru Carnatic voco-violinVidwanSriramaSarma. “Sangeeta Vidya PraveenaIndira Kameswara Rao has also contributed to Carnatic music through her various compositions and developing her students and disciples in to top grade artistes in a career spanning over 30 years,” said Dr Prabha.

Well known Carnatic musicians’ NC Murthy and Oruganti Ananda Mohan were the guests of honour. A workshop on ‘Raga alapana’ was conducted for the students of the college by Dr Saileswari, Professor of Carnatic Music, SV University Tirupati,followed by a concert of Anjali Prabhala.
