Charminar: The 5k walk from Charminar to Falaknuma was a huge success as thousands of school children from different schools took part in the event that kicked off at 7 a.m. on Friday. Organised by HMTV & The Hans India under the Hyderabad Media House Private Limited (HMHL) banner in association with Delhi Public School, Nadergul and Pallavi Model Schools the walk aroused a lot of enthusiasm among the students.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, Mohammad Mahmood Ali after flagging off the walk appreciated the effort of HMHL and said that more such events ought to be conducted.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC) commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said, “Saving heritage and environment are important and there was no better way of doing this by bringing children. Such events go a long way in helping save the glorious heritage of the city.” Zaheerabad MP B B Patil too was present on the occasion.
There was enough glamour quotient to the heritage walk as stars from the film world graced the occasion. Karthikeya, Monali Rathod, Himanshu Choudary, Sagar of Mogali Rekudu fame, Subhank Pant, Nagapuri Ramesh, Badminton player Chetan Anand and others encouraged the school children.
M Komaraiah, chairman, Delhi Public Schools and Pallavi Model Schools said, “Our endeavour is to encourage students to think and become better citizens. The walk will surely broaden their perspective on several issues and what better way than a walk on Republic Day.
” Jyoti Toraga, principal, Delhi Public School, Nadergul said, “The walk has been beneficial in more ways than one. It fosters bonding and a sense of patriotism. The happiness in the faces of students was there to see.” Pallavi Model School director Susheel too echoed similar sentiments when he said that the students enjoyed themeselves and many were mesmerised by the historic Charminar.”
Abhinav, a student of Pallavi Model School who was in the forefront was egging other students to walk faster said, “It was the first time that I am participating in a walk and am happy to see many heritage structures in the Old City.”
Pallavi Model School branches of Bowenpally, Alwal, Boduppal, Gandipet and Saroornagar, and seven branches of Pallavi Kids, and Delhi Public School branches of Nacharam, Mahendra Hills and Nadergul took part in the walk.
