Tandur: People are sceptical whether the municipal authorities are under intense political pressure not to take action against illegal constructions in the town. According to the town people, there are some hundreds of illegal structures that sprang up in the town.

They were disgruntled that the municipal authorities and municipal councilors in the 31 wards were not taking any steps to stop the construction/demolition of the illegal structures in all the wards. Even the town planning authorities, fearing political pressure, were accused of not paying attention to take action against the illegal structures.

As a result, there was a huge revenue loss to the civic body and state exchequer. It may be recalled that vested interests raised the first floor in the shopping complex on an endowment land in Station Hanuman Temple in the heart of the town.

In the Bhamini Bhadreswara Swamy’s land, allegedly an old structure has been pulled down to raise a shopping complex. However, the locals approached the court and obtained a stay order.

Three days ago, the civic authorities had pulled down a shed constructed by Young Leaders Foundation state president Rohit Reddy under survey number 54 to park his vehicles. The leader applied to the civic authorities six months ago for permission, but there has been inordinate delay in giving it. Therefore, he built the shed, which was ultimately pulled down by the officials.

Rohit Reddy alleged that the officials became stooges of the minister Mahender Reddy and noted that it was objectionable that an officer of the rank of DSP was involved in pulling down the shed. On one hand the KTR says that the citizens can build the structures in case of inordinate delay in giving permission and on the other the officials were pulling down the structures, he lamented.

Municipal councilor Aravind Kumar welcomed the civic officials pulling down the illegal structures and wanted them to demolish the shopping complex built on a site belonging to Station Hanuman temple in the town and also in Bhavige Bhadreshwar temple site.

Municipal commissioner Bhogeswarlu said that the civic body served notices on those who build structures illegally. He advised the people to take permission and build homes. Otherwise, he threatened to impose fines on them.

He said that a notice had been served on endowments department for the illegal structure raised in Station Hanuman temple. He said the matter was sub-judice. He said that action would be taken on them once the verdict is issued in the matter.
