BN Reddy Nagar: With the monsoon just round-the-corner, the residents of B N Reddy Nagar are living in fear as it has become an annual routine of rainwater seeping into their houses. Even a short shower is enough for the area to get inundated. Last year several families had to vacate as water entered their homes.

On Friday, the residents complained to the corporator and civic authorities to clean the drains. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials said that a majority of the nalas were desilted and debris removed but there were a few left and the work was in progress. However, the locals say that there were many open drains that were still to be desilted.

Meanwhile, in a rear guard action, the local corporator Muddagouni Lakhsmi Prasanna Rammohan Goud instructed officials to make alternate arrangements to avoid rain water in to houses. When asked what the alternate arrangements would be when there was no action plan. She assured them to solve the problem at the earliest. Ravi Kumar, a resident of Gautam Nagar Colony said, “We have been facing problems for the last several years but a permanent solution has not been found. It has become an annual ritual.

Officials come and pacify us but nothing concrete is done.” The GHMC deputy executive engineer Badru Naik and assistant engineer Sainath visited Gautham Nagar Colony.
