Gannavaram (Krishna): YSR Congress Honorary President Y S Vijayamma, appeared down in the mouth, when she spoke to the media here on Saturday, before leaving for Hyderabad. Her depression was not because the police ended her indefinite hunger strike by force on Friday night and shifted her to the hospital in the most disrespectful manner, but the decision of her son and the party chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, to continue her fast from Sunday in his Chanchalguda jail room. She told the media that Jaganmohan Reddy had called her from the jail and requested her to end her fast in the hospital.

“I have told him categorically that I would end my fast only if he promised me not to launch the fast in the jail. He did not answer my question but requested me to end the fast keeping in view my age and health,” Vijayamma said as her voice went down in grief. “I am leaving my son for you. He is ready for any sacrifice for the welfare of the State and people. It is for the people to stand by him,” she said. She further said that the party would continue to fight for equal justice to the two regions if the division of the State was compulsory. She questioned the Congress for its absolute silence on the issues like sharing of river water and revenue, status of Hyderabad and protection for the people settled in Hyderabad.

She asserted that people of all the three regions have developed Hyderabad in the past 60 years and objected to the delegation of the city to Telangana region denying the rights for the people of Seemandhra. She also pointed out the possible dispute over supply of coal from Telangana for the thermal power stations in Seemandhra. “We have been raising these issues and asking the Center to address them. But, the government remained silent and insensitive. We will continue to fight on these issues and Jagan will be on indefinite fast on the same issues,” she asserted. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress leaders condemned the way the police have handled Vijayamma’s fast at Guntur on the small hourson Saturday. The police shifted her from the camp to the hospital in a vehicle, without the presence of doctors.

“The fasting Telugu Desam leaders in Guntur district were shifted to the hospital in ambulances, while Vijayamma was shifted in an ordinary vehicle. She is the honorary president of the party and wife of a former Chief Minister of the State. Minimum respect was not given to her while breaking her fast and shifting her to the hospital,” regretted the party senior leader and Krishna district unit convener, Samineni Udaya Bhanu.
