Leaders reconciled to the bifurcation decision begin lobbying for the new capital

Hyderabad: With clear indications emanating from the Centre that there was no question of going back on its decision to divide the State, the Seemandhra Congress leaders are now wondering on their next course of action to protect their political future. The leaders felt that they should not be silent on the issue and should take quick decisions and decide whether they should remain silent or take some drastic steps and join the ongoing agitation.

The leaders and some ministers from Rayalaseema region are understood to have urged the Union Minister K Chiranjeevi to revive the Praja Rajyam Party and lead the agitation against bifurcation of the State. However, a former minister from Rayalaseema region said that so far they have not got any positive response from Chiranjeevi. They felt that even the Chief Minister would not like to quit the party and lead the movement.

Meanwhile, those Seemandhra Congress leaders who are reconciled to the fact that the high command would not reverse its decision are gearing up to lobby for making the Centre agree to locate the new capital somewhere between Guntur and Vijayawada. They feel that Vijayawada and Guntur were ideally located and have a reasonable infrastructure. Minister K Parthasaradhi is among those who are supporting such a proposal. However, Minister P Bala Raju, on Wednesday, said if State was to be bifurcated, Visakhapatnam would be the most suitable city to construct the new capital.
