Auto strike called off

Auto strike was called off in the city on Thursday evening. The Auto drivers' Joint Action Committee has called off the strike as the government has agreed to consider a review of Rs 1000 penalty for traffic violation. More than 1.5 lakh autos went off the roads in protest against the hike in penalty for traffic violations on Tuesday. The auto union demanded the government to scrap Go No 108 to restore status quo so as to spare the motor vehicle users from the huge penalties. The Auto Union leaders who had talks with the transport authorities earlier in the day failed, but they relented following the intervention of senior officials.
