Its back again, 28th year in succession, from humble beginnings with 25 stalls inside the City Central Library premises in Chikkadpally, the Hyderabad Book Fair, grew by leaps and bounds. The current edition which opens at NTR Stadium today will see as many as 330 stalls that will offer a myriad of books in various languages.

The current edition which opens at NTR Stadium today will see as many as 330 stalls that will offer a myriad of books in various languages. As it is being held in the independent state, the organisers have added ‘T’ flavour to it. Talks with writers, editors and cultural activists reflecting the culture of Telangana will be held at the event.

“It is the first book fair after the formation of Telangana. It will not only showcase the State’s culture but continue to promote reading habit among children. Entry will be free for children, students and teachers,” stated noted poet Nandini Sidda Reddy.The fair will likely be inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, minister for finance Etela Rajender and minister for education Jagdish Reddy will attend the do.

Arrangements at NTR Stadium

The 10-day fair will also see editors sharing their experiences on how books changed their lives, poetry sessions, exclusive women writers meetings and cultural programmes. Juluri Gowrishanker, HBF Trust president, has requested the Chief Minister to consider establishing a State Book Trust on the lines of National Book Trust and allot a permanent place for book fairs in the city.The fair will be open from 2 pm to 9 pm on weekdays and from 12 noon to 9 pm on weekends, till December 26. Entry fee is Rs 5.
