The issue boils down to lack of water meter. Reportedly, the Bal Bhavan used to get a monthly bill in the range of Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. For a period of 40 months, during which the pipeline lacked a meter, it was agreed upon by the officials from both the parties to pay twice the amount that was usually billed.

However, much to the chagrin of the Bal Bhavan officials, the Water Board slapped a bill of Rs 60,000 per month totaling it to Rs 25 lakh.“The agreement to pay double the billed amount was taken when Syamala Rao was the MD of the Water Board. But what happened came as a rude shock.

The entire amount was way over our annual budget. Currently, we are getting water from the nearby Jubilee Hall for our daily needs and when we are organising events, water tankers come to our rescue,” informed a senior official with the Bal Bhavan. The Bal Bhavan authorities are keen on meeting the new Water Board MD to settle the issue.
