Vivekananda Youth Association organised a meeting on ‘Mana Ooru Mana Cheruvu’ at Palmakul village in Ranga Reddy district which was attended by farmers of Maisamma Cheruvu. Women actively participated in the meeing and suggested involving local groups to implement Mission Kakatiya to restore all the lake and tanks in the State.

Environmentalist Prof. K Purushotham Reddy explained the significance of Kakatiya Mission and motivated farmers and villagers to actively participate and save the water bodies in villages. Lakshman, president of VYA, said that the main objective of the programme was to promote awareness among villagers to motivate them to actively participate and place relevant problems before the government and NGOs who are working to save lakes.

“Maisamma Cheruvu is 500 years old and it irrigates more than 400 acres and its water spread area is 200 acres,” he said. BV Subba Rao, expert, water resources management; Sravan Kumar Goud, District Co-operative Marketing Society Ltd; Anjaneyulu, former chairman, Water Users Association; Rajender Reddy and KV Subba Rao, active members of Save Water Bodies and Vijayalakshmi, MPTC Member were present at the meet.

The expert group along with villagers visited the cheruvu and inspected the status of water outlet system. They will submit a memorandum to the concerned authorities to revive the lake to conserve rainwater for its optimum utilisation for agriculture and allied activities.
