Remember those times when you would get in to a fight with your sibling or friend and it was usually followed by a long lecture by your parents yelling, “Stop watching these fight shows on the TV!” But you hardly gave an ear to this and watched your favourite wrestlers nonetheless.
Says 24 year-old Mahabali Shera, who has been roped in for TNA by renowned wrestler Kurt Angle
Remember those times when you would get in to a fight with your sibling or friend and it was usually followed by a long lecture by your parents yelling, “Stop watching these fight shows on the TV!” But you hardly gave an ear to this and watched your favourite wrestlers nonetheless. To most of us, our daily dose of wrestling entertainment has two destinations -- the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which was known as WWF back then.
India has also produced wrestlers like Dara Singh and The Great Khali. And now adding to the list is Mahabali Shera, who has been signed for TNA by Sony Six. TNA Hall of Fame wrestler Kurt Angle, on his visit to India to find the best wrestler for TNA, selected Shera as the first Indian wrestler to join the TNA’s talent pool.
24-year-old Mahabali Shera, speaking to The Hans India, reflected on his journey. “It feels great to be a part of something that I have been wanting for the last ten years,” Shera says. Speaking about TNA and WWE, Mahabali says, “Both are the premier networks for wrestling. However, TNA has the upper hand. It feels livelier than WWE. Any ardent fan of wrestling would surely know that TNA gives you what WWE doesn’t.”
“Indians enjoy watching wrestling but are hesitant to take it up as a career. They prefer becoming doctors, engineers and curb their will to fight their way to the world of wrestling which is very wrong. That the wrestling scene is fading away in the country disappoints me,” laments the wrestler.
Shera expects that his inclusion in TNA would catalyse more Indians in getting involved in wrestling. Also, after earning some name and fame worldwide, the wrestler aims to pave way for budding wrestlers in the country, which he thinks is the need of the hour.
