The Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA), in collaboration with the Cyberabad Police, would be launching an innovative training programme to sensitise nearly 25,000 drivers operating in the twin cities on key issues related to safety and security of passengers, especially those belonging to the IT sector.

The programme would be launched by Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand at 10.30 am at Cognizant Technology Services (CTS) premises, Gachibowli, on Saturday. Nearly 1,500 drivers, working for different private cab operators, will participate in the inaugural programme.

Experts on different subjects would brief the drivers about the existing laws, the new rules and the role that they need to play to ensure safety and security of the places they move around. Similar training programmes would be conducted for all the drivers in batches of 700-1,000 in different IT companies in Cyberabad limits.

According to TSCBOA president Syed Nizamuddin, drivers are an important component of the IT industry and therefore, they need to be more disciplined and alert. “An IT company cannot function without having an organised fleet of vehicles and disciplined drivers who pick up and drop its employees on scheduled time, in safety and comfort.

While we measure the success or failure of a company from its balance sheet, so far, we have not devised any mechanism to judge the performance of a driver. Driving, as a profession, not only lacks recognition, but it also lacks the much deserved respect.

Every organisation needs good drivers, but not many of them treat them as part of their team,” he said. The training programme will be interactive wherein experts from related fields will deliver brief lectures or give presentations on the role a driver is expected to play in the present security scenario. The representatives of TSCBOA, Cyberabad Police and Cyberabad Security Councilwill address the training programme on identified subjects.
