The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has renewed its efforts to recover service charges from major Centre and State government departments under the cantonment limits to the tune of Rs 423 crore. “The Ministry of Defence (Garrison Engineers, North and South) is the major defaulter owing Rs 367 crore, followed by Military Dairy Farm (45.07 crore), Hyderabad City Police (6.65 crore), Andhra Pradesh Judicial Academy (1.22 crore), BSNL (1.11 crore), Road Transport Authority, Trimulgherry (0.56 lakh), P & T Quarters at Balamarai (0.21 lakh) and Defence Machinery Design Establishment (DMDE), Nicholson Road,Tadbund (0.18 lakh),” pointed out SCB CEO Sujatha Gupta.

“With regard to South Central Railway, we had issued a notice along with a copy of the Supreme Court judgment and Allahabad High Court order to its general manager requesting them to furnish the details of lands and buildings and its value located in the cantonment jurisdiction to enable them to asses and levy service charges.

But there has been no action or response from them till date inspite of repeated reminders,” she added. “Unless these huge arrears are not brought to books, the financial position of the SCB cannot improve and would hamper the development works in the cantonment,” Sujatha concluded.
