City to get 90 MGD of water

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is expecting an augmentation of nearly 90 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) of water supply in the next few months as the third phase of Krishna River Water Supply project is nearing completion.

According to sources, the third phase of Krishna River Water Project, which was executed at a cost of Rs 1,670 crore, is likely to be completed by this month end. Therefore, the Water Board is expecting to draw about 45 MGPD of additional water by March end and another 45 MGPD will be available by August.

The Krishna water will be routed through Kondapur, Narsapally, Godakondalla, Gangal to Saheb Nagar. It will be pumped at 410 metres height and supplied to Sainikpuri and Mailardevpally through two Ring Mains. Of the total budget of Rs 1,670 crore, the HUDCO has provided Rs 1,500 crore while the remaining is the state government’s contribution.
