In a first GHMC to seek public opinion on budget
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to seek the opinion of intellectuals and the common public on its own budget that would be finalised soon. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has decided to prepare the corporation’s budget innovatively.

The authorities stated that this would be the first time that the corporation authorities have decided to take the public’s opinion. The corporation usually prepares a budget and gets the approval of a council. As the council does not exist, the GHMC officials would take the opinion of the public.

It was routine practice for the civic body to finalise its budget in February. But it has waited for the State budget in the wake of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plans to develop Hyderabad as international city. With Rs 628 crore being allocated for the civic body, the authorities have to decide on the amounts to be allocated for various developmental schemes.
