The RTC is set to add a state-of-the-art luxury bus manufactured by Swedish company Scania to its fleet soon to counter competition from private bus operators and ensure safety of passengers. Speaking to CityTAB on Tuesday, APSRTC Vijayawada Regional Manager G Sudeesh Kumar said that the RTC management had allotted one Scania bus each to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

“The bus allotted to Andhra Pradesh would operate from KPHB in Hyderabad to Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) in Vijayawada for 90 days on an experimental basis. Based on its occupancy rate, the RTC management will explore the possibility of adding more Scania buses to its fleet,” said Sudeesh Kumar.

The bus, manufactured at the Swedish company’s unit in Malaysia, costs around Rs 1.2 crore. It can accommodate 53 passengers. Comfort and safety of passengers are assured. The bus fare from Vijayawada to Hyderabad is fixed at Rs 500. Explaining the state-of-the art features of the bus, Sudeesh added, “Passengers can browse the internet with wi-fi connection that is provided free of cost during the journey.

The interiors of the fully air-conditioned bus are made of non-inflammable materials to prevent fire accidents. Even if the bus gets overturned in the event of an accident, passengers may escape unhurt as its sturdy body can withstand the impact of any crash. Mobile phone charging facility is available at the seats itself for passengers. They can also have lunch and dinner during the journey by comfortably sitting on their seats as it has a special arrangement for it. The modern bus cabin ensures all comfort to the driver and crew. The bus consumes less fuel and it can also be run on bio-gas and ethanol.’’
