Calligraphy as a genre of painting has earned its place as one of the finest mediums in Islamic art. Anand Gadapa, faculty at the Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts, says, “He derives his style from classical Islamic scripts and employs an assortment of kinaesthetics and an amalgam of various scripts. Upon these heavily treated painterly spaces, he shows unknown forms that articulate the meanings of ayaths (names of Allah).”

The works have an expressive visual language and an abstract beauty. Faqruddin however says that his work would appeal to even that person without knowledge of Arabic. 22 paintings of his are on display, each one with a distinct touch of the upcoming artist with loads of texture as his signature style, at the ICONART Gallery in Banjara Hills. The show is on till April 14.
