While some student unions feel that notifications for jobs across the State should be released immediately, others want the government to release a schedule primarily to reassure the students of jobs

Student unions, which had earlier joined hands for a united struggle to achieve the separate statehood for Telangana, now differ on the issue of recruitment for vacant government posts across the State. While majority of the unions are demanding the immediate release of job notifications, a few leftist organisations want the government to announce a schedule for filling up the vacancies.

Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) state president Renjarla Naresh found fault with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for backtracking on his poll promises. “KCR, who had promised a job to each and every house in Telangana after formation of the State, is trying to prolong the matter on the pretext of delay in the division of top officials by Kamalanathan Committee,” he said.

Talking about the release of District Section Committee (DSC) notification, Naresh said that it was not proper on the part of the government to delay it on the pretext of rationalisation of schools and division of employees. “With an eye on teaching jobs, thousands of students are pursuing Teacher Training Course by spending a huge amount. Students have been charged around Rs 3 lakh for each TTC seat by private colleges,” Naresh said. However, one student union feels that blaming the present government is irrational.

“Though some student leaders are blaming the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government for the vacancies, there is uncertainty among some students as no job notifications have been published in the last ten years,” said a student on the condition of anonymity. Progressive Democratic Students’ Union (PDSU) state president Goutham Prasad said, “There may be some difficulties in releasing notifications immediately. But the government should put out a schedule to reassure the students.”

“About 50,000 to 60,000 teacher posts are vacant in ten districts and scores of TTC and B. Ed graduates are eagerly waiting for DSC notification. The State Government is deliberately neglecting one of his three promises, of bringing nidulu (funds), neellu (water) and udyogalu (jobs),” said Prasad. A research scholar said that the State Government was trying to reduce the number of posts to escape from its responsibility of filling vacant posts.

“After the formation of the TRS government, TNGOs leader Devi Prasad met KCR and asked him to recruit all 2.15 lakh vacant posts but changed his voice later. The government has recently put the vacant jobs figure at 1.15 lakh,” he added. TJAC chairman Prof. M Kodandaram wanted the government to release a notification immediately. “The government must take up certain measures to reduce the growing ambiguity among unemployed youth who are eagerly waiting for jobs,” he opined.
