UK soldier beheaded on street

In a suspected terror attack, a person believed to be British soldier was beheaded on Wednesday here by two men, who were shot and wounded by the police. The British police shot and wounded two men, a senior officer said, after reports that a soldier was killed in a Woolwich street near a London army barracks.

"Two men, who we believe from early reports to have been carrying weapons, were shot by the police," Commander Simon Letchford said. Local MP Nick Raynsford said he had been told the man attacked in the street was a soldier serving at the Royal Artillery Barracks near the attack, the Telegraph reported.

Home Secretary Theresa May has summoned a meeting of the government's emergency response committee Cobra to assess the incident.
