Former French General faces court after participating in anti-immigrant demonstration. Five persons have been arrested including Christian Piquemal, former General and Chief of the French Foreign Legion.

The former distinguished soldier was seen in leading position of Calais islamophobic demonstration. Far right wing parties such as the National Front demonstrated their support to him.

Interestingly, on the French Foreign Legion one can read:

"The French foreign Legion is the military aspect of the ancient tradition of welcome and integration into French society. Authorized to recruit foreigners from all over the world, the Legion must then train and form these men to live, work and eventually fight together as a closely homogenous and tightly knit group."

Christian Piquemal, aged 75, was made Commander of the National Order of Merit of the Legion of Honour.
