Brussels:British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that he will not trigger Britain's exit talks with the European Union (EU) but leave the issue to his successor.

Britain will discuss with the EU and examine all the ways following the historic referendum but the incumbent British government will not initiative Britain's exit procedure, he said during a press conference on Tuesday after an EU summit, Xinhua news agency reported.

The negotiations between London and Brussels on how to deal with the vote and the decision to trigger a British exit may only be made by "next cabinet" and "next prime minister", he said.

Cameron said he explained the situation in Britain to leaders from 27 European countries at the summit.

He said their discussion was "constructive, calm and understanding".

Britain will seek a close relationship with EU in the future, he said.
