kadapaKadapa: Minister for Health and Family Welfare D L Ravinder Reddy and Minister for Minority Welfare Mohammad Ahmadullah said and teaching was a noble profession as teachers mould the children into future citizens. Speaking at the inaugural function of the State Teachers Union building in memory of former MLC, the late Veena Vijayarama Raju at the Raja Reddy street here on Wednesday, they lauded the services of Veena Vijayarama Raju who strived for the welfare of the teaching community throughout his life. Ravinder Reddy said it was mainly due to the unrelenting efforts of Vijayarama Raju that the State Teachers Union was formed in the year 1964. Raju took up the cause of the teaching community and fought with the higher-ups, he said. The Minister for Minority Welfare said that several welfare centres for the teachers were organized in various parts of the district. He said that every teacher should strive for the upliftment of the children of the poor and the downtrodden. He said that the State government was taking several measures for the welfare of the minorities. He said that the government had sanctioned Rs 1025 crore. In his speech, State Teachers Union President Kunna Kumar said that STU would remain in the forefront in fighting for the rights of the teaching community. It would strive with zeal and commitment, he said. He expressed happiness for the construction of a new building for carrying out the activities of the Teachers' Union. Former MLC P Subba Reddy, STU state general secretary K Narasimha Reddy, STU state leaders Jaya Ram and others were present on the occasion.
