Karimnagar: Over one lakh devotees participated in the Saraswathi Pushkaram at Kaleshwaram, in Mahadevpur mandal, on its penultimate day, on Sunday. The event was launched on May 30.

A large number of people, from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh, took advantage of the holiday, bathed in the river and visited the Kaleshwara-Mukteswara Temple. Among those who had 'darshan' were the Andhra Pradesh High Court judges Seshasayana Reddy and B V Rao.

There was a stampede in the queue following a sudden rise in the number of devotees. However, a mishap was averted thanks to the timely intervention of the organizers.

Cool weather and light showers provided relief to the people, who also took a holy dip in river Godavari. The organizers said more people were expected on Monday, when the pushkaram concludes.
