Khammam:Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders demanded the government slap Preventive Detention Act (PD Act) on those engaged in adulteration of chilli powder.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, party’s district committee secretary Ponnam Venkateswar Rao and State committee member Nunna Nageswara Rao accused the government of being nonchalant despite the fact that manufacturing and sale of adulterated chilli powder was rampant in the district.

“Government yet to act on those offenders despite the fact that Vigilance and Enforcement had seized the stocks of adulterated chilli powder during raids in last five days,” Venkateswar Rao said.

It appears that government is trying to protect the traders who indulged in the racket, he alleged, demanding steps to stop the flow of adulterated chilli powder in the district to save people’s health.

Nunna Nageswar Rao found fault with the government for not providing compensation to farmers who lost their chilli crop owing to spurious seeds. Referring to the seizure of adulterated chilli powder, he demanded Tummala Nageswar Rao to focus on the malady.
