Khammam: The priority of the State government is people’s welfare and sustainable development, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao has said. During his tour in Sathupalli constituency, the Minister launched several developmental works.

Speaking in Vemsoor mandal on Monday, Tummala said the aim of the government was to strengthen rural economy by providing irrigation facility. As part of the programme, the government had allocated Rs 50 crore to restore defunct minor lift irrigation schemes, he said.

“The onus is now on farmers to make use of irrigation schemes as the government is providing advanced technology motors and pumps,” Tummala said, asserting that plans were afoot to tackle irrigation and drinking water problems in Sathupalli constituency.

He urged the farmers to make use of subsidy given on drip irrigation and sprinklers, in addition to Rs 4,000 per acre financial assistance for the purchase of fertilisers from next year.

SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarthi Ravi said with the untiring effort of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Telangana has become a welfare State. Never before Sathupalli has witnessed so much of development, he said, attributing the credit to Tummala.

R&B Executive Engineer Ravindra Kumar, TS Irrigation Development Superintending Engineer K Dayakar, RDO Rani Kumudini Singh, Deputy Executive Engineer Radhakrishna Murthy, Vemsoor Sarpanch Gopalakrishna and Duddepudi Sarpanch Shantamma were among others present.
