Nalgonda: The Chityal police seized about Rs 1 crore unaccounted cash from a jewellery shop worker who was travelling in a private bus bounded for Chennai via Miryalaguda on Monday night.

According to Chityal SI Saida Babu, at about 9 pm on Monday night, Kavery Travels bus bounded for Chennai via Miryaguda started at LB Nagar in Hyderabad. As many as 31 passengers boarded the bus. Prabhakar, a native of Sattenapally of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh and employed with a paddy purchasing trader Ayyapareddy, was travelling with a bag of collected amount of paddy transactions of Rs 17 lakh.

Similarly, a jewellery shop worker, Somashekar, of Jaggaiahpet of Krishna district, was heading towards Chennai with an amount of Rs 1 crore. As the bus stopped at Pujitha hotel on the outskirts of Chityal for a short break, all passengers got down and had the meals. Prabhakar, who got down the bus for supper, failed to locate his bag of cash after returning. Immediately he informed the police.

The police, who rushed to the spot, checked the bags of all passengers, including that of jewellery shop worker Somashekar. During the search, police found bundles of currency packed in papers in Somashekar’s bag.

As Somashekar failed to submit the details of money and supporting receipts, the police seized Rs 1 crore money and took him into custody. on Tuesday, the police opened the currency packs before the media and handed it over to the Income Tax officials for future course of action. On complaint of Prabhakar, Chityal police registered a theft case and took up the probe.
