Fertilizers worth Rs 2.5 cr gutted

Vijayawada: In a major fire mishap in this season, fertilizer worth Rs 2.5 crore was reduced to ashes in the city during early hours on Tuesday. The mishap occurred in a fertilizers godown between Bhavanipuram and Gollapudi on the outskirts of the city. On information, the District Fire Officer, V Srinivas, and the fire services crew rushed to the spot and tried to bring the flames under control. The fire broke out at the distribution centre of the Hindustan Pulverising Mills in the early morning and flames spread in no time. The Fire Services Department pressed three of its vehicles into action to control the flames in vain. They could not enter the godown as thick smoke covered the area. It took more than six hours for the fire crew to bring the flames under control.
