Raghavendra Srisailam (Kurnool): Two accused persons, who were apprehended by the Srisailam two town police on Sunday in connection with the theft of ornaments from Panchamukhi Anjaneya temple here, gave a slip to the police and made good their escape. However, police say that they were only brought to the police station on suspicion and they let them go. There is no answer to the question why they were brought with shackles on, if they were only taken into custody. According to information available, silver crown, Sathagopam, Abhaya Hastam and other material was stolen from the Anjaneya temple on Thursday night. However, two persons were apprehended along with the stolen material in the early hours of Friday. The police seized the stolen material and brought the accused with shackles to the police station. It is illegal to handcuff the persons who were brought to the police station for inquiry. When asked the police say that they were only suspects and inquiry is on. SI, Giribabu says that actually the police had not taken them into custody but only inquiring into the incident. They did not say clearly whether the stolen material was seized or not. Temple priest Narasimha Sarma said that a complaint had been lodged with the police and the stolen silver crown and other material was with the police. "The SI told me that the material would be handed over to the temple soon," the priest added.
