Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Gattu lift irrigation project in Jogulamba Gadwal district.

The project aimed to create an irrigation potential of 25,000 acres in the district will also stabilise another 3,000 acres existing ayacut under 41 minor irrigation tanks.

The project has already been accorded administrative approval with over Rs 459 crore for the first phase and Rs 94.93 crore for the second phase.

KCR, accompanied by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao visited the project site, where works are going on and held discussions with the officials.

Tight security arrangements were made by the police, on account of KCR's visit.

The lift irrigation project has been designed to irrigate 28,000 acres ayacut in the upland areas of Dharur, KT Dodi and Gattu mandals of the district.
