The Chief Electoral Officer Rajath Kumar on Wednesday demonstrated the working of VVPAT machines procured for the Telangana assembly elections for the first time.

Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) gives feedback to the voters for whom they have voted and also generates a slip seven seconds after the voter presses button on EVM. The slip generated contains the party symbol and name of the candidate to which the voter has voted.

It is to be notified that the VVPAT machines will be only accessed by polling officers who cut the slip and drops into a drop box after which a beep will be heard.

The VVPAT machines have been chosen by the election commission after the opposition parties levelled allegations against the other parties on the use of EVMs without paper trail units.
