‘Being Women’, an NGO to enhance the socio-economic status of young underprivileged women was launched on Monday by Dr Tripurama Venkataratnam, chairperson, State Commission for Women, along with Captain Mamtha, Veena Gupta who is the first trained woman body guard and Nikhat Zareen, former Junior World Boxing Champion.

“Being Women has been started to work towards women empowerment, education and upliftment of weaker sections of the society. The founder president is Ruchika Sharma who won the Mrs South Asia International 2014 crown, Mrs India Hyderabad International 2014 and Mrs India Popular 2013 titles and was a finalist at Mrs International 2014.

“Since childhood, I was very sensitive towards a girl child being brought up in our society with a host of crimes against women. In this context I started this NGO with an intention to support and empower women in fields such as health, education, etc. As a start, we will be launching cancer screening camps in 70 urban slums in Greater Hyderabad, hold nutrition camps at schools in Ranga Reddy district and livelihoods projects in Old City, said Ruchika.

“We strongly believe that working with women will help improve the whole family’s well being. We are working on women centric issues,” she added.
