An important state that is nestled among the mountains is Sikkim. The state is present in the North-east part of India and it is the second smallest state of the country. The capital city of the state is Gangtok . The state of Sikkim shares its border with three different countries. Kanchenjunga is also found in the state, it is the highest peak of India and the third highest peak of the world. Sikkim became a part of India in 1975. It had a historical importance as a part of the Silk Road.

• Sikkim has a rich biodiversity inside it. About 500 different types of Orchids, 23 types of bamboos and more than 400 varieties of medicinal plants are discovered in the state. 81% of the area of Sikkim is covered in forests. The Khangchendzonga National Park covers about 35% of the state. An abundance of Yak and Musk deer are also found in the state. Sikkim Tourism definitely has a lot of great things to offer.

• Sikkim has a huge population of Nepalese and Bhutanese people. It is the state with the highest population of foreign nationals in India. Nepali is actually the predominant language of the state.
• Sikkim is a hub for bird watchers and bird lovers. Over 552 species of birds are found in the state. One of the best-loved birds is the bearded vulture which has huge wings. It is also home to over 600 species of butterflies.
• 5 hot springs are also found in the state. They are said to have medicinal qualities that heal several ailments. They are definitely the wonders of the world. These are the Yumthang, Yume Samdong, Taram, Reshi, Borong and Ralong hot springs.
• If you visit Nathula pass which is present in Sikkim, people will also take you to the Baba Mandir. The interesting thing about the temple is that it is dedicated to a soldier. Baba Harbhajan Singh is the deity of the temple and his soul protects the soldiers who are toiling day and night in the borders.
• A yearly International Flower Festival is held at Sikkim during the summer months. The exotic plants of the state and other places are showcased in this festival. The best thing is the Rodhodendrons which are also the state tree of Sikkim.
• In the monasteries and Buddhist homes of Sikkim, you will find Thanks. These are mainly scroll painting which is used to ward off the evil eye and the bad luck or bad spirits present in one’s house. The paintings are indeed very beautiful and eye-catching.
• Siddheswari Dham is a spot in Namchi, Sikkim which has a 108 feet tall statue of Lord Shiva.
