Sangareddy (Medak): The health of people living in remote corners greatly depends on the timely assistance at Primary Health Centre (PHC) but what if the medical officer posted at the PHC three years ago does not want to take charge. In a typical case of negligence of duty, Dr Sandhya Rani, Medical Officer of the PHC, Regode, Jogipet, Medak district simply refuses to take charge leaving the centre on the verge of closure.
The PHC which used to attend 20 deliveries per month today is being ignored by locals as there is no staff at the PHC. The pharmacy is closed. The pharmacist, Sailoo is hardly seen in the hospital, resulting in shortage of medicines in the Out Patient wing. There was shortage of medicines for diarrhoea in this epidemic season in the OP.
“The staff of the PHC has not received their salaries, even the National Rural Health Mission staff that is all contract employees and subsists on meagre salaries has not been sent. This affects work of all the field staff in the entire sub–centres, in turn affecting health services in the whole mandal,” said Mallesh a local. Payment of Rs 1000 for 40–50 women under Janani Suraksha Yojana who delivered in the PHC is pending since two to three months, says M S Chandra of Carped, an NGO who works in the region.
Repeated attempts to contact Dr Sandhya Rani, Medical Officer proved futile. “There is no Officer in the PHC to draw salaries or any other payments for beneficiaries. The hospital surroundings are in a despicable unkempt condition lacking maintenance. If this is the state of a PHC in the Deputy CMs constituency, what can we expect from the rest of them?” asks M S Chandra.
