Nation celebrates May Day

New Delhi (Agencies): International Labour Day was celebrated across the nation on Wednesday to honour the contribution and sacrifices made by the working class. Known also known as May Day, the day celebrates the social and economic achievements of the international labour movement, and promotes social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights.

Speaking on the occasion, Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge extended warm greetings and best wishes to the labour fraternity all over the country. In his message, Kharge said the day reminds of mutual cooperation of workers, employers, governments and the civil society in laying a solid foundation of nation building. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour and Employment plans to introduce a new scheme called Kaushal Vikas Yojna under which 3000 industrial training institutes (ITIs) and 5000 skill development centres will be set up through the public-private partnership mode across the country. The intent behind the scheme is to create a world-class skilled Indian labour force.
