Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj has accused the Congress-led UPA government for playing a double- game with the people of Andhra Pradesh. She said that both the Congress and the UPA government were speaking in different voices on the creation of Telangana. While the Congress had passed a resolution in its highest-decision making body, the CWC for the creation of separate State of Telangana, the UPA government, on the other hand, was hesitating to bring the issue to the Cabinet. “In this way,” she said, “they want to keep both the regions happy.” Addressing media persons, Sushma Swaraj said that it was the uncertainty on the issue of Telangana that was causing disturbance in the state.

“The government should bring the Telangana Bill in the Monsoon Session of parliament and we will pass it in this session itself,” she assured the government. The leader of Opposition stated that the BJP had always maintained that it was for the separate state of Telangana. Their party had welcomed the CWC resolution but the government was now delaying the issue.

Sushma Swaraj said that if Telangana became a reality, normalcy would automatically be restored in Andhra Pradesh. It was because of uncertainty that there was unrest in both the regions. She blamed the UPA government for paralysing parliament in the Monsoon Session. She said that even after the declaration of Telangana, the UPA government had not been able to address the concerns of the people of the state. According to her, at the beginning of the 15th Lok Sabha, the BJP had asked the government to create a separate state of Telangana. While earlier it delayed the decision, now it was speaking in different voices and creating confusion in the minds of the people.
