Delhi: On Tuesday, the Apex court gave its verdict on mercy petitions. The Apex Court vindicated that the delay in the implementation of death sentence will pave a way for transforming the verdict into life sentence.
In its verdict, the honourable Supreme Court said that if a prisoner suffers mentally, his death sentence can be reduced to life sentence. In the same verdict, the apex court held the isolated punishment for that facing death sentence as unconstitutional.
Supreme Court verdict on mercy petitions
As many as 15 life sentences have been reverted to life sentences based on the delay caused in the realization of the punishments. The apex court in its verdict transferred the death sentences of 4 convicted allies of Veerappan to life sentences. Finally, in its verdict, the Supreme Court instructed to inform the families when rejection of their mercy petitions occurs.
