CRPF Men, Died, Bomb Disposal Squad, Choppers Serve, VIPs Elsewhere, Inderjeet SinghNew Delhi: Little did Inderjeet Singh, Deputy Commandant of CRPF, know that the country for which he had vowed to lay down his life, will betray him when he will need it the most. His last thoughts were of his small children and wife, while he pleaded to be saved.

He along with two other members of his unit, laid down their lives fighting with injuries occurred during the diffusing of an IED.

His plea resonated on camera. But neither the PMO nor Home Ministry did anything to prevent this death. The Director General was also inactive. The case was déjà vu for reasons more than one – he could not be airlifted in order to give immediate medical attention as the choppers were assigned for a VIP’s mobility in the area.

Inderjeet and his team soon succumbed to injuries.

The questions that are now being asked in the corridors of power and governance will not bring them back. But it will prick the conscience of somebody down the line and rightly so. Why was the CRPF team sent for an IED disposal task, when the state has a fully trained bomb diffuse squad? Why did the chopper fail to arrive on time, to airlift the injured personnel to Ranchi? Aren’t these questions striking?

The facts are out there, as confirmed by a superior police officer to a leading English daily. A veteran Congress leader was holding a rally in Sasaram the same fateful day. A large number of police personnel had been deployed in the area and on the insistence of some ‘seasoned’ politicians the bomb disposal squad was also assigned to the same venue.

The demand for high security had also seen the deployment of choppers for the same reason. It is obvious as to why the chopper could never make it on time. Despite the clear evidence the officer insisted that the chopper and the squad were rushed to the site, but could not make it on time.

Upendra Kumar Sharma, the SP of Aurangabad had also released a statement earlier to ABP news that CRPF personnel should not have been assigned to defuse the explosives in the first instance. The bomb disposal squad should have been awaited.

Did they risk their lives, since the bomb disposal squad failed to arrive on time ?

Reliable sources have informed that members who were trained in diffusing of bombs were missing from the team on the site.

Then what prompted the CRPF personnel to go ahead – still a mystery, but they deserved a lot better.
