A picture of Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, meeting with none other than Gautam Adani, the billionaire infrastructure-builder has come to light, which was published by a newspaper in Gujarat.

The meeting dates back to June 01, 2009 when Vadra had gone to Mundra in Kutch district of Gujarat to have a look at the projects undertaken by the Adani group. Vadra had reached Kutch by the private aircraft of Adani. Notably, Congress accuses Modi of having close ties with Adani. The Gujarat CM has often been targeted by the Congress for travelling in jets rented by Adani.

The sudden appearance of the picture, that too when Congress had taken up the alleged Modi-Adani links to corner the Saffron party, has flummoxed the Congress leaders.

Without any substantial details of the Vadra - Adani meeting, Congress said it has no information about any such meeting. Talking exclusively to Zee Media, Congress Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdhury tried to water down the meeting, saying Vadra meets a lot of businessmen. Definitely it is a norm high profile individuals meeting n number of businessmen, but Vadra already in the dock over his alleged links with DLF and irregularities in land dealings in Haryana, it won’t be easy for Congress to shun away this meeting if it wants to keep attacking Modi on Adani links.

On Friday, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had slammed the BJP's prime ministerial candidate over his alleged links with Adani business group headquartered in Ahmedabad, saying Modi has cornered veteran BJP leaders and given more space to his big-business backers.

Addressing an election rally in Doda in Jammu region, Gandhi said the Adani group was "given everything" whereas senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders LK Advani and Jaswant Singh were "thrown out".
