New Delhi: Anandiben ‘set’ to become Guj CM, Anandiben Patel, the Gujarat Minister for Roads and Buildings and Urban Development, is considered to be a close aide of Modi. She is the de-facto second in command in the Gujarat government.

New Delhi: Narendra Modi will meet BJP MLAs in Gandhinagar on Tuesday evening and the issue of his successor as the Gujarat Chief Minister will be discussed.

Anandiben Patel, the Gujarat Minister for Roads and Buildings and Urban Development, is considered to be a close aide of Modi. She is the de-facto second in command in the Gujarat government. She is one of the longest serving women MLAs in the Gujarat government. Sources say that the new Gujarat Chief Minister is likely to be sworn in before May 20. Hectic parleys have begun to appoint Modi's successor in Gujarat.

Although BJP leaders say that the Central Parliamentary Committee will appoint the next Chief Minister, it appears that senior minister Anandi Patel is tipped to take over. Sources say Modi has discussed this issue with the RSS and the BJP leadership and Patel's name has been finalised. Patel had in April told CNN-IBN that she would accept if the BJP decided to make her Gujarat Chief Minister.
