New Delhi: Prime Minister Narandra Modi on Friday said the government "chose" to take a tough stand in the recent WTO talks as it has to protect the interest of the poor people of the country rather than to look for good publicity in the international media.

"There are attempts to spread doubts on WTO. Should we choose in favour of our farmers or for getting good international publicity in the media? We have chosen the former. We have chosen the interest of the poor people of the country," Modi said at the BJP's National Council meeting here.

Poll losers still engaging in vote-bank politics

In a veiled attack on Congress and SP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused them of continuing to practice vote-bank politics to divide society and asserted that disturbance of peace and harmony will not be tolerated.

Different yardsticks

Talking about his government which was formed after BJP's landslide victory, the Prime Minister said "different and tough yardsticks" are being applied to gauge its performance. "Those who have not done anything for 60 years are asking for our account of 60 days," he said attacking Congress yet again.

Amit Shah 'man of the match'

Lauding Amit Shah's efforts for victory of the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called him the "man of the match". "After the elections this is the first National Council meeting. Crores of party workers have worked for this victory," Modi said at the BJP National Council meet here.

He said, "Rajnath singh was captain of the team, under his captainship, party workers achieved the victory and man of the match is Amitbhai Shah."
