Bhopal: After the shocking deaths of 13 women who underwent tubectomy in Chhattisgarh, followed by the callous manner in which doctors in UP’s Kushinagar conducted the same procedure on 42 women within 2 hours, a case of an open autopsy on a tractor trolley has been reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district.

It has come to light that medical staff stationed in tribal-dominated Jhabua district conducted a postmortem examination of a man on a tractor trolley as there was no room where the doctors could conduct a postmortem examination. The district is located 360 km from the state capital.

On Thursday, Var Singh (35) died following a thunderstorm. His body was brought to Raipuriya but there was no room where the postmortem examination could be conducted. Sources said the doctors were forced to conduct a postmortem on a tractor trolley at the request of the man’s family members. Many villagers were also present when the procedure was done.

Dr Thomas Damor, who is posted in the tribal region, said, “We repeatedly told them there are no facilities to conduct a postmortem here and told them to take the body to Petlawad, the nearest town.” However, the doctor said, the family members said by the time they will reach Petlawad it will be dark and insisted that the postmortem be conducted at the earliest. He added the family members of the deceased wanted to cremate the body by next morning. Meanwhile, someone from the crowd gathered to witness the open autopsy captured the procedure on camera and leaked info to the media.
