New Delhi: Even as the curtains came down on the campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections on Thursday, the firebrand BJP leader from Bollywood, Shatrughan Sinha, shot off his mouth by praising his party's number one rival, Arvind Kejriwal and describing him as a ‘good man’.

  • Says Kejri is a good man
  • Mamata tweets support to AAP
  • Amit Shah too says polls not a referendum

"Obviously, AAP's strength can be seen, which is why I am being asked this question, but we also have a candidate who is very good," Sinha said, referring to the BJP's chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi. "The choice is between Kiran Bedi, a sterling human being, an upright officer, and Arvind Kejriwal, who is also a decent, sincere and good man," said the 68-year-old actor-turned-politician popularly known as ‘Shotgun’ Sinha.

The BJP has spent the last lap of its campaign for Saturday's Delhi polls rubbishing opinion polls that give the AAP a clear edge in the results to be announced on February 10. A day after Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu dismissed Delhi election as referendum of Modi government, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday said,

"While this is indeed true that the good work of the government of India has its impact on elections, a state election cannot become a referendum (on its functioning) because of that one thing," Shah said. With rivals targeting Venkaiah Naidu over his "referendum" remarks, the Union Minister said certain sections of political class were indulging in misinterpretation and he only meant that the PM's mandate "need not be validated" in every assembly election.”
