On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh amongst the raging controversy over Kashmiri separatist leader release asserted that the government’s top priority was national security and not the continuance of the government in the state where BJP is an alliance partner.

One day earlier to Mr Singh remarks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the Parliament that the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam was not acceptable and the nation’s integrity won’t be compromised.

The Union Home Minister speaking to the sidelines of the 46th Raising Day of central security force CISF said that the official version that was sent to his Ministry earlier by the state government was not satisfactory and dismissed reports that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had talked to him on the subject.

Expressing outrage over the release of the separatist leader, members in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha called the step as ‘anti-national’ and risky to the country’s integrity.
