"Congrats Saina Nehwal on becoming World no 1 in Badminton; well deserved honour; best wishes for Indian Open Semi Final," the President tweeted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nehwal's achievement phenomenal and congratulated her for the same.
"The phenomenal accomplishments of @NSaina make us very proud. I congratulate her on being the World Number," the Prime Minister tweeted.
The ace badminton player achieved the number one rank after defeating Spain's Carolina Marin.
However, the official rankings will be out only on Thursday next week.
