New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday sought a collective response from political leaders to the agrarian crisis caused by unseasonal rains and resolved not to "abandon" the farmers.Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Modi said: "It should be our determination to find a solution to this problem. The issue has been there for long... we will have to think together where we went wrong and what the deficiencies were in the system that resulted in the crisis."

Meanwhile, escalating the blame game over the suicide, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh slammed AAP supporters for "clapping and raising slogans" as the man inched closer to death, while the latter hit back, saying he was "lying". The Congress, which has mounted a major offensive on the BJP-led NDA government over the land acquisition ordinance, demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. The minister also defended Delhi Police, facing the accusation of doing nothing to prevent the shocking incident, saying it took prompt steps to tackle the situation by calling the police control room and seeking help from the fire brigade.
